What steps should you take to change your domicile?

• File a Florida Declaration of Domicile


• File for Florida homestead exemption


• Obtain Florida operator’s license and relinquish New York license


• Acquire Florida license plates and relinquish NY license plates


• Register to vote in Florida and actually vote


• Transfer safe deposit box contents to Florida


• Open a Florida bank account


• Change credit cards to Florida address


• Execute a new Florida Will


• Refer to Florida residence in all trusts and other legal documents


• Affiliate with Florida organizations and consider disaffiliation with New York ones


• Where feasible, have family gatherings and social activities centered in Florida rather than New York


• Change address on passport


• Transfer works of art, expensive furniture and heirlooms to Florida
